A tread that's 1/8" off isn't a tread. It's a change order.
Most tread problems don't show up in the shop. They show up on install day — when the return doesn't land, the nosing profile doesn't match, or the stain reads two shades cool against a floor laid four years ago. Then it's a re-mill, a re-order, and a schedule you no longer control.
Measured wrong, milled wrong.
Generic sizes force your crew to cut on site, exposing raw end grain that never matches and ruining factory seal.
Stain guessed, not matched.
Ordering "white oak" is not a color. It's a category. Without a physical sign-off match, two batches will look like two different species.
Finished on the visible faces only.
Unsealed underside and ends absorb humidity — in Florida, that's how treads cup, warp, and split after the first humid summer.
We built our process to remove all three.

Every tread milled to your numbers, finished on all six sides, ready to install on arrival.

Milled to your exact measurements
We cut to the rise and run you send us, not to a stock size, so your treads seat flush on the first set, so your crew installs instead of adjusts, so the job closes on the day you told the client it would.

Stained to match your existing floor
Send a sample or a photo and we match the stain in-house, so the staircase reads as original to the house instead of an obvious addition.

Finished on all six sides
Faces, edges, ends, and underside are fully sanded and sealed with a 1/8" round-over nosing, so Florida humidity has nowhere to enter, so the treads stay flat for decades instead of cupping in year three.

Any profile, any thickness
Standard, Bullnose, Butcher, Cascade, Square, and L- or R-Return in 1" through 6", so the tread matches the architecture you actually drew.

Trade feedback prioritizing accuracy, stain matching, and schedule reliability
"We had 24 steps with a custom radius return. STEPS delivered every single tread milled to 1/16th tolerance. Saved my crew 3 days on site. Zero change orders."

"Most suppliers promise 10 days and deliver in 4 weeks. STEPS delivered in 9 business days, packed on a dedicated pallet, pre-labeled by stair position."

"Their 6-side finish guarantee is real. We installed near the Intracoastal with heavy humidity during frame-in and the treads stayed flat as glass."

"I've been designing luxury homes in South Florida for 18 years. STEPS is my default recommendation for any hardwood stair spec."

1. The Fit Guarantee
Mill to the measurements we confirm with you, and if a tread doesn't seat correctly, we remake it at no cost and prioritize it in production.
2. The Stain Match Guarantee
You approve the stain sample before we finish the full run. If the delivered treads don't match the sample you signed off on, we refinish them.
3. 2-Year Warranty

You are approving a sample, not gambling on a shipment.
Frequently Asked Questions

We provide a 1-page printable measurement guide and a 5-minute video walkthrough. If you prefer, send us photos or architectural plans. For trade contractors in South Florida, we can also perform an on-site scan for complex curved or winder flights.
Yes. Wood oxidizes over time, so ordering off a color chip never works. You send us a 4" offcut or sample of your current flooring, and our in-house master finisher creates a physical sample on the exact species of your treads. We mail or drop off the physical sample for your written sign-off before spraying the full order.
Unfinished orders are guaranteed in 10 business days from deposit. Custom stained orders are guaranteed in 15 business days.
Yes. We deliver via our own dedicated trucks across Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Martin, and Monroe counties. For Central Florida, Tampa Bay, and national orders, we crate and ship via freight carrier with foam corner protectors and moisture barrier wrap.
A standard 14-step straight staircase in 1" White Oak with square return and standard clear coat typically ranges from $2,650 to $3,500 total timber cost depending on widths. Thick floating 3" or 3.5" block treads range from $4,500 to $7,500.
Yes. Licensed general contractors, flooring installers, architects, and interior designers qualify for trade discounts starting on their first order, along with net term invoicing upon account approval.
Absolutely. Visit our Fort Lauderdale showroom at 701 NW 5th Ave Ste 1092, or request our free physical trade sample kit online containing 3/4" cut samples of White Oak, Walnut, Red Oak, and Ash with standard profiles.
We do both. We manufacture and finish every tread in-house, and our installation crew handles the full staircase setting. Because our treads arrive pre-milled and finished on all six sides, most staircases install in a single day. If you already have a trim carpenter or flooring installer, we supply only — either way, the result is the same.
If a tread is damaged in transit or mis-milled against approved shop drawings, we rush-manufacture a replacement tread at zero charge within 48 business hours.
Yes. There are no minimum order quantities at STEPS USA. Whether you need 1 replacement tread for a repair or 120 treads for an apartment complex, we give it the exact same precision milling.
